Web Search and AI Chatbots
Consumer awareness and interest in AI and web search has increased tremendously over the past few months with the emergence of AI chatbots like ChatGPT. Here at Bespoke Intel we run a monthly survey tracking sentiment and interaction rates surrounding AI and search trends with cross-tabbed data on various consumer demographics.
Our data shows that despite Microsoft’s backing of OpenAI and ChatGPT, as well as their subsequent plans to integrate AI into their Bing search engine, Google remains on top in terms of consumer use and awareness.
Google has the most loyal user base of all the search engines that we tested. So much so that users of most Google competitors also used Google on the same day that they used the competitor. In contrast, a much lower percentage of people that used Google the day they took our survey also used a competitor’s platform for search engine capabilities.
The majority of the general population is still not very familiar with AI Chatbots. 70% of our survey cohort has either not heard of them or have heard of them, but are not very familiar. 8% of consumers stated that they use AI chatbots on occasion and only 2% use them regularly.
Bing users are more likely to say that they use AI Chatbots compared to Google users.
